Enrique Beltranena is Founder, CEO and President of Volaris (NYSE: VLRS and BMV: VOLAR A), the ultra-low-cost Mexican airline that operates in Mexico, the United States and Central America. Mr. Beltranena started his career in the aerospace industry in 1988. In the 1990s he led the TACA management team in the commercial merger of Central American airlines under a single entity called TACA Group, which later expanded to South America and originated the foundation of TACA Peru. In 2001 he led the restructuring process of Grupo TACA in his position as Operational and Commercial Vice President. Enrique Beltranena came to Mexico with a minimum capital and led Volaris to its listing at both the Mexican Stock Exchange and the New York Stock Exchange. In November 2016, Volaris Costa Rica started its operation as a subsidiary of Volaris, aimed at connecting the Central American region internally with ultra-low-cost rates. Since it began operating in March 2006, Volaris has increased its routes from 5 to 214 and its fleet, from 4 to 82 aircraft. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Volaris offered an average of 390 daily take-offs on routes that connect 120 cities in Mexico and 69 cities in the United States and Central America, with one of the most modern fleet in the Americas. Volaris has established itself as the largest airline carrier in the history of Mexico, with more than 45% of passengers above its closest competitor in the domestic market. Volaris is the second carrier with the lowest unit cost in the world, and one of the fastest growing in the Americas, capturing markets not penetrated by aviation, with a price disaggregation strategy that has enabled bus passengers to switch to air transportation. Despite its high levels of growth, Volaris maintains higher rates of excellence in its operation compared to the rest of the aviation industry on the continent. Enrique Beltranena participated in the largest negotiation in the history of Airbus narrow aisle aircraft and has developed a team of high-level executives with the strongest qualifications in the aeronautical industry. He led the expansion, at a minimum cost, of the most advanced digital marketing strategy of the air transport industry in the region. In 2009, Beltranena received the most important award in Latin America´s aviation industry, the Federico Bloch Prize awarded by the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association, in recognition of its outstanding leadership, that helped in the advancement of the commercial air industry in the region. In 2011 he was recognized by EY with the Entrepreneur of the Year award in Mexico, and in 2012 he entered the EY Hall of Fame in Monaco, as one of the world's leading entrepreneurs. Beltranena also received the National Order of Merit (Knight's Badge) from the president of France. Among other awards, Volaris has received for eleven consecutive years the prestigious certification as a Socially Responsible Company granted by CEMEFI in Mexico. Beltranena leads a series of programs aimed at helping communities, is an environmental activist and a defender of human rights. He manages the largest operation for the transportation of organs and tissues with the purpose of human transplant along with National Center for Transplant CENATRA in Mexico; supports several humanitarian programs related to the well-being of children and promotes family values, especially among immigrant communities and university students. Mr. Beltranena is Honorary Consul of Guatemala in Mexico and is happily married with four children.
